Headshot of Nick Sylva

Hey there,

I'm Nick

A data scientist, machine learning practitioner, and engineer focused on building a better world.

About Me

My career thus far has focused on building a better world—I have helped restore shattered, contaminated lands and enabled cities to simulataneously reduce their carbon footprint and redirect funds to better serve their citizens.

Before taking a sabbatical to get my Masters in Information and Data Science at the University of California, Berkeley, I worked for five years in environmental and energy services consulting. But I realized that building a better world requires leveraging the scaling effects of technology and data. Small projects are the bedrock of change, but I needed to think bigger.

In December 2020 I completed my graduate work at Berkeley. Now I embark on adventure to find the perfect role for me. A role where I can grow my data science and machine learning skillset, deploy solutions at scale, and most importantly: solve BIG problems.

I spend my spare time outdoors: running, hiking, camping, and otherwise enjoying nature. I read science fiction, far too many news articles, and engross myself in existential philosophy.
